I tried Bluesky

Yep.

I've been historically avoiding the site, but with its recent explosion in popularity and lots of people around me moving to exclusively post there I felt coerced into maintaining a presence there. And I did! For a bit, anyway.

It turns out that I don't particularly like being there. This was actually my fifth time trying to use it if I recall correctly, and it just doesn't click for me. It usually ends in pretty strong cognitive dissonance as I sigh and say that I'm abandoning my account again. Only time will tell if I dust it off in the future.

As for my opinion? Good protocol work, although I'm a little too entrenched in ActivityPub's network to try and give my full attention to the AT Protocol. I'm not particularly a fan of Bluesky from a user-facing perspective, though. It's too Twitter-y at a time when I've seen better uses of the social media paradigm and I want more Tumblrs or LiveJournals or even something completely different instead. That 300 character limit is brutal.

Maybe it'll get better in a few years. I dunno. I'm not really satisfied anywhere at this point. Maybe I should learn server-side programming and make my own website that hooks up to both sides. We'll see!
